The Ministry of Health has confirmed figures on their website which indicated a COVID-19 patient had been transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) at an Auckland hospital were incorrect.

Two people who tested positive for COVID-19 in MIQ facilities have recently been transferred to Middlemore Hospital for further care.

During Sunday's COVID-19 update, the Ministry said they were both in stable condition but on Monday morning its website was updated to reflect one patient was in ICU while the other wasn't.

This appears to have been an error with the Ministry issuing a statement saying neither of the patients are in critical condition.

"Two people with COVID-19 continue to be treated at Middlemore Hospital. Both were transferred from the Auckland quarantine facility last week. Both patients are in a stable condition."

However, a Ministry of Health spokesperson has now confirmed to Newshub it wasn't a mistake, saying a patient previously visited ICU but was now back at Middlemore Hospital.

"One of the two patients in hospital was previously being treated in ICU. This patient is now out of ICU and remains in Middlemore Hospital. Both patients are in a stable condition.

"At current case levels, future data releases on the Ministry of Health website will not include patient status information, in order to protect the privacy of the individuals."

The Ministry's website has been changed to say both patients are in hospital, but not in ICU.

New Zealand currently has 27 active cases in COVID-19, all of which are in MIQ facilities or in hospital. There are no community cases reported.
