Auckland pedestrian in critical condition following crash

A pedestrian is critically injured following a crash in the Auckland suburb of Grey Lynn. 

Police told Newshub they were called to the incident on Newton Rd near Karangahape Rd shortly before 1:30pm.

According to witness reports, a car drove onto the footpath and hit a fence on Newton Rd injuring the pedestrian.

The pedestrian and another person who was in a moderate condition were taken to hospital. 

Part of Newton Rd heading south from Karangahape Rd is closed, police said. 

Drivers can expect delays and are asked by police to avoid the area. 

The Serious Crash Unit is attending the incident.
