Duncan Garner: The AM Show is celebrating 1000 shows - it's brutal, but I love it

OPINION: Please allow me to be briefly self-indulgent as we are celebrating 1000 shows on Tuesday.

Let's not get caught up in the hype. What hype? I know we're the ones promoting ourselves.

I find it a bit uncomfortable if I'm honest, but I also don't want this day to go unnoticed because this team deserves some recognition.

In this game, with so much chop and change, it's an achievement.

This is a celebration of the shift worker in many ways because that's what we are.

Five years ago, in the weeks leading up to this show, I sat on the beach in Northland and I said every swear word known to man.

I doubted myself. I'd always wanted to do it, but could I do this, could we do this?

Truth is early mornings suck. They just do. Great show, but the worst time to do it.

But this crew battles on sometimes until midnight and beyond to get the show ready for the following day.

It's brutal. It's a sausage factory but I love it.

Today, we churn it out and again we have to do it all again tomorrow. But it's a privilege.

To all of you who have come up to me over the years and said 'love the show mate', it's always been genuinely appreciated and given me an extra skip to my step.
