Footage of Auckland man driving from passenger seat sparks police warning

Footage of an Auckland man "driving" from the passenger seat of his car has sparked a police warning.

The video, which was posted to a community Facebook page on Thursday, shows a man sitting in the passenger seat of his car and leaning over to steer.

Newshub understands the incident occurred in the west Auckland suburb of Massey.

In the footage, the man can be heard asking "where's my driver gone?" and complaining he's been disqualified from driving.

"I'm f***ing disqualified cuz. I'm not driving f**k that… oh you know I will drive a little bit but….I'm disqualified - I can't drive so I just get Caspar to drive," he says.

Another man in the backseat then chimes in saying, "Caspar's a good c**t."

The man in the passenger seat then clarifies that he has cruise control on, and claims he's not really driving so it will be okay if he gets pulled over by the police.

"If I get picked up I will just pull over and be like, 'F**k I wasn't driving...all good'."

But that approach doesn't seem to work with the video appearing to end with the pair being pulled over.

"Oh f**k we are getting pulled over. I have to pull over, shit," he says.

Police warn the way the man was driving puts innocent people at risk and that enquiries into the incident will be made.

"This type of driving behaviour is completely reckless, dangerous and puts the lives of innocent road users at risk," police said.

"We strongly encourage anyone who knows who these people are to contact Police."
