Footage shows car careen through fence in west Auckland crash that put driver in hospital

Dashcam footage has emerged of the moment a west Auckland driver careened off the road and into a residential property last week, flattening a fence.

The video, captured on the afternoon of Monday, May 24 by a trailing motorist, shows a 4WD going straight ahead instead of turning with a bend on a main road in the suburb of Swanson.

The car can be seen crossing into the right lane and onto a path just seconds before a truck heading in the opposite direction would've hit it.

Then, without braking, the car continues down a steep driveway and straight through a fence at speed, before nestling into a wall.

"F**king hell," a man can be heard exclaiming in the video, which was later posted to Facebook page Dash Cam Owners Australia.

Moments later, a passing truck driver can be seen pulling over and running down the driveway to help the motorist.

It's believed due to the lack of braking or swerving that they may have been unresponsive or suffering a medical event at the time of the crash.

A police spokesperson told Newshub they received a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a fence on Swanson Road about 4:30pm last Monday.

The driver was later taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police say they are still looking into the matter.
