Police have arrested a 25-year-old man after an elderly woman and her son were assaulted at a home in Napier, leaving both of them hospitalised.

The pair, who are understood to be in their 90s and 70s, were injured at a Kennedy Rd property between 7am and 8am on Sunday.

Emergency services transported them to hospital, where they remain in a stable condition.

The 25-year-old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and police say other charges may follow.

He will appear in the Hastings District Court on June 22.

Since this is now before the court, police say they can't give any further information.
