One dead, another in serious condition after river boating incident in Bay of Plenty

One person has died after a boating incident on the Kaituna River in the Bay of Plenty.

According to police, emergency services were notified at 11:45am on Saturday that a small boat with two people onboard had capsized at the Kaituna River mouth, near Ford Rd in Paengaroa. Coast Guard, Ambulance, Fire and Emergency NZ and Police responded. 

One person made it to shore and was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but the second person was pulled from the water by rescuers and died shortly afterwards.
