Police have caught up with the alleged perpetrators of a slew of burglaries in Upper Hutt, arresting three people in two days.

Two people are facing 25 burglary charges and 12 shoplifting charges between them after a police bust in Upper Hutt.

On Wednesday the people - a 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman - were arrested in Upper Hutt for "a number" of dishonesty offences.

The woman is also charged with assaulting police.

A third person - a 42-year-old man - has also been arrested in connection with the spate of burglaries that have plagued Upper Hutt and the wider Wellington region for the last five months.

On Thursday a home on Ruahine St was searched, and a large amount of stolen property - some thought to be linked to the burglary of a local school - was found. A gun was also found on the property.

The man is now charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm and police say further charges are expected.
