Two killed, five injured in crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway

Two people have died in a crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway overnight.

Another five people were injured when a car rolled on the Highbrook Dr off-ramp about 3:30am, throwing people out of the vehicle.

One of the injured was taken to hospital in a critical condition, St John said in a statement.

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says the northbound lane of the Southern Motorway remains closed.

"Please avoid the area and consider using SH20 as an alternate route," Waka Kotahi NZTA said in a statement.

"The road is likely to remain closed for several hours while SCU (serious crash unit) completes their investigation."
