Driver arrested in Auckland after allegedly trying to run person over, ramming police car

A woman has been arrested after allegedly driving the wrong way down an Auckland CBD street, trying to run over a member of the public and crashing into a police car.

A police spokesperson confirmed at around 8:04am on Wednesday they received reports from the public of a vehicle being driven the wrong way down Quay St, near Princes Wharf.

Videos posted to TikTok show one police officer running after the woman as she drives down the street, shouting "stop your car". The driver then does a U-turn in the street, drives towards the police car, and rams into it.

After reversing her car, she gets out of it and approaches the police vehicle, swearing at officers as she goes.

When she reaches their car, she asks officers "are you scared" before appearing to partially lean over their windscreen. She continues to yell and swear at them.

Two police officers then run towards her, telling her she's under arrest.

The driver allegedly attempted to run a person over before police got to the scene.

"Police staff have quickly attended and have been on-foot attempting to get the woman to get out of her vehicle when she has driven off, done a U-turn and then driven back and deliberately run into the stationary police vehicle. Thankfully no one was injured."
