A Hamilton running group is urging participants to be careful after several joggers were attacked by geese over the weekend.

Hamilton Lake parkrun, a free 5km event which runs every Saturday around the city's lake, posted to Facebook to alert the community.

"We had quite a serious incident in the weekend with a goose attacking three of our female front runners about 500m into our event," the post said.

"We have reported this to the Hamilton City Council and will continue to follow up with them to establish a plan to keep our parkrunners, and members of the public too safe."

Parkrun confirmed two of the three runners only sustained bruising and they are trying to get in contact with the third runner.

"If you were the 3rd lady we would love to hear from you to make sure you are also ok."

The event is urging next weekend's runners to "be aware and careful" around the geese.

"We will do a check prior to this weekend's event to continue to ensure your safety."
