Police have charged several teenagers after a high-speed car chase in west Auckland overnight.
Police said the stolen Subaru was spotted travelling at high speeds along Swanson Road at 12:40am on Tuesday.
The car then sped onto State Highway 16 city-bound and was successfully spiked as it exited the Nelson Street off-ramp.
The car continued through the CBD area, and travelled back onto State Highway 16 westbound, exiting the motorway at Te Atatu by doing a U-Turn and driving the wrong way along Te Atatu Road towards Henderson.
The car was badly damage in the chase and was being driven on its rims. Photos show several of the tyres are completely rubber free.
It was eventually abandoned on Riverglade Parkway where seven offenders ran from the car.
Police said the offenders, aged between 13 and 14, were taken into custody without incident.
The 14-year-old driver was charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and reckless driving.
Two of the passengers, also aged 14, have been charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle. They are expected to appear in the Waitakere Youth Court.
The other passengers will be referred to Youth Aid.
