Police have arrested a male after they swarmed a property on Cedar Heights Avenue in the Auckland suburb of Massey on Sunday.

The incident began after the man allegedly stole two handbags from members of the public at the Mobil petrol station on Royal Rd in Henderson shortly before 7:50am.

In a update, police said the offender was in a stolen vehicle, and resisted arrest and fled the scene when police arrived.

This led them to the address in Massey. There were reports the man had a firearm so police set up a cordon and evacuated neighbouring properties while the armed offenders' squad and police negotiation teams were called in to assist.

Police now say the incident has been resolved and a male has been taken into custody without incident. Police located a firearm at the address and this has been seized.

The male is now assisting police with their enquiries and will face charges over to this incident as well as the one at the Mobil Service Station.
