A person is in a serious condition after being shot in the south Auckland suburb of Flat Bush.
Emergency services were called to an address on Whimbrel Rd just after 1pm on Tuesday after reports a gun had been fired, a police spokesperson said.
"A person has been located with a gunshot wound and they have been taken to hospital."
The spokesperson said a vehicle was seen leaving the property just before officers arrived.
"Police are making a number of enquiries to establish exactly what has happened and to locate those responsible.
"Police are talking to a number of people in the area and residents in the area can expect to see a large police presence for the remainder of the day."
St John confirmed it was also called to the incident.
"One ambulance and one rapid response unit responded to the scene. St John treated and transported one person in a serious condition to Middlemore Hospital," a spokesperson said.
