Police have released CCTV pictures of men they believe could "assist" in their investigation into vehicle crime at Auckland Hospital.

Thieves have been targeting the cars of frontline healthcare workers during the lockdown, stealing them or smashing their way in and taking whatever they can.

On Thursday police posted a series of photos on Facebook showing the three men, all dressed in dark clothing. Two of the three are wearing disposable face masks, and one is carrying some sort of tool.

Anyone who recognises any of the people is asked to contact the police immediately on 105.

It follows a spate of vehicle crime at Auckland Hospital with multiple frontline health workers reporting their cars had been targeted while they worked grueling shifts.

Police have received numerous reports of break-ins and stolen cars over lockdown at both Auckland City Hospital and Middlemore Hospital.

"Police received several reports of vehicle crime over the weekend in relation to cars parked at Auckland Hospital," a police spokesperson told Newshub on Tuesday.

The spokesperson said since Wednesday last week, police have received three reports of vehicles being stolen in the hospital's car parks and two further reports of vehicles being broken into and tampered with.

They described the incidents as "extremely disappointing".
