Mount Wellington has been added to suburbs of interest in the latest COVID-19 outbreak, but three others have been removed Dr Ashley Bloomfield said on Thursday.

Suburbs of interest are where intensive surveillance testing is carried out.

Dr Bloomfield said Mt Eden, Massey and Papatoetoe were removed from the list of 'suburbs of interest'  as health officials have done "intensive surveillance testing."

"Our suburbs of interest where there is intensive surveillance testing going on are changing today," Bloomfield said.

"Mount Eden, Massy and Papatoeatoe are no longer included but Mount Wellington has been added to that list.

"There are pop-up testing centers today and the netball centre in Ferguson Drive and Mount Smart Stadium."

On Tuesday the Auckland suburb of Clover Park was added to the list for mass testing after a number of locations of interest were found.

Dr Bloomfield said he was impressed by the "great response" to testing in Clover Park.

"There has been a great response to testing in the Clover Park suburb over the last 2 days, with another 777 swabs taken yesterday, so 10 percent of the population of Clover Park have been tested in just the last two days," he says.

"So 60 percent of Clover Park residents have already had one vaccination and I would urge those who haven't had a vaccination and are eligible to get out and do that today."

On Monday September 13, Prime Jacinda Ardern announced seven suburbs of interest that they focused on for heavy testing.

They were Mount Eden in central Auckland, Massey in West Auckland and Māngere, Papatoetoe, Manurewa, Favona and Ōtara in south Auckland
