A person has died and two others hospitalised after a crash in the Wellington suburb of Maupuia on Wednesday night.
Emergency services were called to the crash, where a car went off Shelly Bay Rd and rolled onto rocks, about 9:50pm.
A police statement said one person died at the scene.
Two others were taken to Wellington Hospital with critical and serious injuries, police said.
"The road was closed overnight while the serious crash unit examined the scene," said the statement.
"An investigation will follow into the circumstances of the crash."
