Police launch homicide investigation after woman's body found in south Auckland

A homicide investigation has been launched following the shock discovery of a woman's body in south Auckland over the weekend.

The woman, who police say is likely to be in her late teens or early 20s, was found dead just off of McVilly Rd, Manurewa at about 4:30pm on Saturday.

Counties Manukau Police Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward says they have now completed a post-mortem examination

"For operational reasons we are unable to comment further about the results of this," he explained.

"However, police can confirm that the woman has now been identified and we are in the process of notifying next of kin."

Det Snr Sgt Hayward says police are unable to release any further personal details until these processes have been completed.

A scene examination on McVilly Rd has been carried out, and police are looking at CCTV footage and canvassing the area.

"The community can be reassured that police are working hard to piece together the facts surrounding her death and will hold any person responsible to account," says Det Snr Sgt Hayward.

"Anyone with information can contact police 105 quoting the file number 210911/6094 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
