COVID-19: Multiple locations of interest identified after truck driver who travelled to Palmerston North tests positive

Multiple locations of interest have been identified after a truck driver who travelled to Palmerston North from Auckland tested positive for COVID-19.

The locations include a Burger King, a BP service station in Hunterville and several other gas stations.

It comes after the truck driver returned a positive COVID-19 result on Saturday, following routine surveillance testing. The Ministry of Health says the driver is currently isolating in a facility in Palmerston North.

The ministry says two household contacts have been identified and are also self-isolating. The hours worked by the driver meant their contact with others was limited and a small number of potential exposure events were being investigated, the ministry says.

"Auckland Regional Public Health Service has completed its initial interview with the person," a ministry spokeswoman said on Saturday night. "Whole-genome sequencing is underway."
