Elderly woman seriously injured in Palmerston North hit-and-run, police appealing for information

An elderly woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Palmerston North on Thursday, with local police appealing to the public for information. 

At about 4:15pm on Thursday, the 73-year-old was attempting to cross Tremaine Ave, opposite Coronation Park, when a vehicle travelling east towards Rangitikei St performed a U-turn and collided with her.

The driver did not stop after she was knocked to the ground, instead completing the U-turn and driving off in a westerly direction towards Botanical Rd. 

The victim was hospitalised with serious injuries.

"The vehicle involved in this incident is described as a blue or grey coloured medium size sedan,"  a police spokesperson said on Saturday morning.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or has any information which could help us identify and locate the vehicle."
