An apartment block in Wellington has been locked down by armed police after a man was stabbed at the residence on Wednesday morning.
A police spokesperson confirmed that officers responded to an assault at Nuku St flats in the suburb of Strathmore at about 8:20am.
The person has been hospitalised in a serious condition.
Police remain at the scene and are making enquiries, the spokesperson said. It's understood the alleged attacker has not yet been located.
A witness, who did not want to be named, told Stuff a disagreement had escalated between residents at the apartment block.
"He was going in and out of consciousness and he’s got a pretty bad stab wound on his left shoulder," the witness told Stuff.
Other residents were involved in the confrontation, the witness said, with one person allegedly wielding a baseball bat.
