Serious truck crash causes major delays on Auckland motorway

A serious crash believed to have involved several trucks has forced the closure of all north-bound lanes on Auckland's State Highway 20 near New Windsor.

A police spokesperson confirmed officers were called to the crash near the Maioro Street off-ramp on the South-Western Motorway just before 8:30am.

"The crash involves up to four trucks and emergency services are at the scene," the spokesperson said.

"At this stage, police are aware that at least one person has sustained injuries and are awaiting an assessment of those."

Photos from the scene show a truck emblazoned with appliance company Miele branding tipped on its side along with another truck in front.

Emergency services including Fire and Emergency and St John are at the scene.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency confirmed the northbound lanes on SH20 are now closed between Maioro St on- and off-ramps. 

"Expect delays and follow the detour from Maioro St to New Windsor Rd, to Blockhouse Bay Rd, to Great North Rd onto SH16," the agency said in a post to Twitter.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible this morning.
