The Rena disaster marked with exhibition, 10 years on

  • 05/10/2021

It's been 10 years since the Liberian-flagged MV Rena hit the Astrolabe Reef off the coast of Bay of Plenty.

It was a colossal maritime disaster affecting thousands of seabirds, with clean-up efforts costing New Zealand $47 million.

A major commemoration event is taking place in Tauranga on Tuesday.

Photographers Graeme and Ross Brown were there when it all went down, and have launched a new exhibition of photographs from the scene.
