Hamilton man taken into custody after threatening police with machete, barricading himself inside house

A 31-year-old man is in custody after threatening police with a machete before barricading himself inside a house on Thursday night. 

Police were called to an address in Chartwell, Hamilton around 4:30pm to speak to the man in relation to a family-harm related matter. 

But while police were speaking with the man, he threatened them with a machete and barricaded himself inside the house. 

Cordons were placed around the house as police negotiated with the man.

After remaining barricaded in the house for several hours, the man was taken into custody without incident shortly after 2am. The man will face a number of charges in relation to the incident.

Police thanked Chartwell residents for their patience and cooperation.
