An overdue tramper found dead in Arthur's Pass on Sunday after a search and rescue operation has been confirmed as a 37-year-old woman.
The woman was reported missing after failing to return from a hike on Saturday in the Arthur's Pass National Park.
Police said in an update on Monday she was hiking the Mt Aicken track with a friend but the pair became separated - and she failed to return to the Devils Punchbowl Track carpark.
Police didn't identify the woman but confirmed she was a 37-year-old.
Her body was found at 1:30pm on Sunday, police said in a statement.
Police will continue to investigate the death on behalf of the coroner, the statement said.
