COVID-19: Auckland Christmas party becomes 'close contact' location of interest

The Ministry of Health on Sunday listed a Christmas Party in Auckland last week as a "close contact" COVID-19 location of interest.

People who checked in at Otara's East Tamaki Community Hall on Thursday, between 4pm and 11pm, must test and self-isolate.

"Self-isolate, test immediately and on day 5 after you were exposed at this location of interest," the health ministry said. "Further isolation and testing requirements will be provided by Public Health."

Multiple other close contact locations of interest were added to the health ministry's list on Sunday evening, including the Mt Maunganui RSA - which was visited by a COVID-19 case several times between December 15 and Christmas Eve.

The ministry reported 126 cases in the 48 hours to Sunday, with the bulk still in Auckland.

Health officials are urging people to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 over the summer break.

"Anyone with any symptoms that could be COVID-19, is asked to get a test, and remain where they are until they receive a negative result and are feeling better," the ministry said in a statement on Sunday. "For those away on holiday who test positive you will be contacted regarding your ongoing care."

New Zealand has reported 13,485 cases and 50 deaths since the pandemic began.
