Four people will stand trial over the death of a Kiwi firefighter in Australia.

Ian Pullen, 43, was volunteering with the firefighting effort in regional New South Wales in 2018 when his body was found on the roadside at 5:30am.

Police alleged he was struck by a car, which then drove off without calling for help. The vehicle returned to the scene and it's alleged Nicole Mason got out and struck Pullen with an object.

Mason, 32, entered a not guilty plea to the attempted murder of Pullen in a Newcastle court on Thursday.

Her co-accused, Joshua Knight, is the alleged driver of the car and denies the charge of failing to stop and assist after a fatal crash.

Two others, Ivy-Jean Ward and Lilli-Jane Kaye Sale, each pleaded not guilty to concealing a serious indictable offence.

At the time, police offered a $350,000 reward for information about Pullen's alleged killers.

The pair are remanded in custody.

The matter will return to court next year.
