Auckland man films car speeding into his car and a wall in terrifying footage

A speeding driver claimed a man didn't give way to them after they crashed into a car in Auckland

The man's dashboard camera caught the moment the car crashed into him and a wall before losing control and skidding across three lanes.

The footage was taken while the Auckland resident was travelling along State Highway 1 earlier this week.

In the video, a silver car can be seen speeding in the middle lane before changing into the right lane, despite there being no safe gap.

The silver car is then captured crashing into the side of the man's car, before smashing into a wall and spiralling to the left where the car pulls over on the grass.

The dashcam owner told the NZ Herald no one was hurt.

"Afterwards she said to me 'why didn't you give way to me?' She was the one speeding and in the left-hand lane," he said. "After looking back at the footage she didn't even put her indicators on."

The holiday road death toll was the highest since 2016 these holidays, with 17 deaths between December 14 to January 5.

A police spokesman told Newshub the holiday period sees a significant increase in traffic and slower vehicles such as campervans on the road.

Police said the scenes in the video are concerning because it shows a lack of respect for other users of the road.

"All road users should respect each other and be aware they each have responsibilities to uphold on the road. The risk of a fatal crash is too high when bad decisions are made - especially when passing another vehicle," the spokesperson said in a statement.

"Don't put yourself or others on the road at risk by failing to drive to the conditions."

The police said they encourage drivers to wait for passing lanes to execute these types of manoeuvres safely.

"It is better to arrive late than not at all."
