COVID-19: Six people linked to Auckland's Pelican Club test positive

Six people linked to an Auckland brothel have tested positive for COVID-19 and everyone who visited it in late December has to self-isolate.

The Ministry of Health has listed The Pelican Club in Eden Terrace as a high-risk location - anyone who visited the venue between 12am on December 22 and 11:59pm on December 31, 2021 is asked to:

  • Self-isolate
  • Get tested on day five and day eight after you were exposed at this location of interest
  • Stay at home until results come back negative.

The Pelican Club's website says it is currently closed for a deep clean and asks customers to keep their fingers crossed it'll be able to reopen in a week's time.

The Northern Region Health Coordination Centre says the people who work at the massage parlour are getting advice from their manager that is specific to each of their situations.

The new Pelican Club COVID-19 cases come after the Ministry of Health added three adult entertainment venues as locations of interest on Sunday: The Mermaid Club and Femme Fatale, along with The Pelican Club.

The Mermaid Club was visited by a positive COVID-19 case between 11:40pm on December 22 and 1am on December 23. Those who were there during these times are asked to get tested and stay at home until the result comes back negative.

Femme Fatale's exposure dates are December 23 from 3am to 5:20am and it has the same self-isolation and testing rules as The Mermaid Club.

The Pelican Club update comes after 27 new national community COVID-19 cases were announced on Monday. Twelve are in Auckland, seven each in Waikato and Bay of Plenty, and one in Lakes.
