A person has died at Goat Island, north of Auckland, on Saturday.
Police say emergency services were alerted to a group of three divers in difficulty in the water at around 1:35pm.
"CPR was performed on one of the divers but sadly they died at the scene," a spokesperson says.
"The two other divers were uninjured."
Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident.
