The first tranche of 100,000 vouchers for Auckland attractions will be distributed today.

Auckland Unlimited will randomly allocate 25,000 of the 'Explore Auckland' vouchers to people who have applied for them.

The vouchers, which will give discounts on commercial attractions and at council facilities, are part of the government's reactivation support package.

It's hoped the $12 million voucher programme will help bring a buzz back to the city after last year's long Covid-19 lockdown.

About 140,000 registrations have been lodged since the programme's announcement last month and 75,000 more vouchers will be allocated randomly over the next two months.

The winners will receive their vouchers via email and can use them on different experiences including water attractions, biking, art exhibitions and performances.

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff said the voucher scheme would provide a boost not only to families and individuals, but also to businesses which would benefit from people coming into the city.

The vouchers are being distributed based on the population size of each local area and will expire 14 days after being emailed to recipients.
