Four men have been arrested and another rushed to hospital following what's believed to be a gang-related shooting in Upper Hutt overnight.

Police say they were called to an address on Norana Rd in Timberlea at 11:10pm on Monday following reports of gunfire.

A neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, told Newshub multiple gunshots rang out before a modified vehicle was seen fleeing from the property.

"One person received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital," a police spokesperson told Newshub.

"The offenders left the address in a vehicle which was located by police in Petone. Four offenders were arrested and taken into custody."

A firearm was found in the car, police say.

On Tuesday, each of the offenders appeared in the Hutt Valley District Court facing firearms-related charges.

The neighbour told Newshub police were at the property conducting enquiries. They say many neighbours have installed security cameras due to gang activity in the neighbourhood.

Police on Tuesday allayed the fears of locals, saying the incident appears to be gang-related and they do not believe there is a wider risk to the public.

"Police were examining the Norana Rd address today and enquiries into the incident are continuing," the spokesperson said.
