A fundraiser to help the family of Colombian woman Juliana Cayena Bonilla Herrera travel to New Zealand has raised more than $26,000.

Bonilla Herrera, 37, was found dead by her friends in her Addington house last Saturday.

A 35-year-old man was charged with her murder on Wednesday. He appeared in court and was granted interim name suppression.

Her friends grew concerned when she didn't turn up for a planned hike. According to the NZ Herald, police told them they could enter her house if they felt safe to do so. They then discovered Bonilla Herrera's body while still on the line to police.

New Zealand authorities are working with Bonilla Herrera's family in Colombia for any requests for urgent travel to New Zealand.

To help the family with their journey, friends of Bonilla Herrera set up a Givealittle page, which has raised more than $26,000 since it was launched on Thursday night.

"Our dear friend and beloved colleague Juliana Cayena Bonilla Herrera was tragically taken from us last week. We are shocked and heart-broken that such a beautiful soul has been taken from our lives and feel even more for her family back in Colombia," friends write on her Bonilla Herrera's Givealittle.

"We would like to help Juliana's family cover some of the costs associated with this sad time.

"Travel costs are expensive in these COVID times and we hope to make this difficult time more bearable for her family."

The Givealittle page says funds will be paid to a third party on behalf of next of kin.
