Person pulled from water unresponsive in Mt Maunganui

A person has been pulled from the water unresponsive in Mount Maunganui on Saturday.

Police said the person was found at around 3:10pm and was treated at the scene by St John ambulance staff. 

St John said it responded with two ambulances and transported the patient who was in a critical condition to Tauranga Hospital 

The incident comes just two days after a man died following a water-related incident in Mt Maunganui.

This sunny season is tracking to be one of the deadliest summers in the water. 

Since the start of December, there have been at least 27 drownings - worse than the death toll for the whole of last summer.
