A person has been rushed to Oamaru Hospital with serious injuries following a collision between a car and a train.
The incident occurred shortly after 4pm on Thursday afternoon.
Thames St is closed at the railway level crossing near the Itchen Street intersection, police say, and they expect the road to be closed for "some time".
Drivers are asked to avoid the areas and expect delays.
