A student was airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after a "serious harm" incident at Coromandel Area School on Wednesday afternoon.
In a letter to parents, the school said the incident involved two students and happened outside its gates just after 3pm.
"Supporting students through this will be our priority," the school said.
A police spokeswoman told Newshub the victim remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, the spokeswoman said.
