Police say a man who was shot dead at a residential address in Nelson on Tuesday was known to the person responsible.
Emergency services were called to the property in Washington Rd just after 1pm after reports someone had been seriously injured.
The victim, a 22-year-old man, died at the scene.
An investigation into his death has made positive progress since Tuesday, police said.
"Police are satisfied the parties involved are known to each other and that there is minimal risk to the wider community," a statement said.
"We continue to appeal to any witnesses that may have seen anything in the Washington Rd area yesterday from 12:45pm to 1:30pm to come forward.
"The investigation team would also be interested in hearing from people who have any CCTV footage of Washington Rd."
