Man with 12 warrants for arrest flees from armed police on foot after crashing into several cars

Police are on the hunt for a man with 12 outstanding arrest warrants in the Whangārei suburb of Tikipunga.

District Commander of Northland Police, Superintendent Tony Hill, said David Johnstone was involved in an incident in Paramount Parade on Thursday afternoon but fled the scene after police found him in a car park shortly before 4pm.

Hill said armed police tried to stop Johnstone but he fled in a car, crashing into other vehicles in the car park before he came to a stop after crashing into a car on Paramount Parade.

Johnstone then fled on foot and police have not seen him since.

No one was harmed in the events.

Police are appealing for information from the public of Johnstone's whereabouts, but warn he is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Police are currently conducting searches in the area to locate him and anyone with information should call 111 immediately and quote file number P049808095.
