Police are investigating after a young woman was left "frightened" and "disgusted" by a man repeatedly flashing her during her walk on a beach north of Auckland.

The woman was on her regular walk around noon when she came across a naked male sitting on the Omaha beach on March 17.

According to a post on the Omaha community Facebook page, the victim was "surprised" to see the man blatantly naked in a public area.

The woman passed him and continued to walk down the beach when she came across the same male in front of her wearing a towel wrapped around his waist.

"At this stage the male turned towards her direction, clearly aware of her presence, dropped his towel, again displaying that he was fully naked and began walking directly towards her," the post said.

"As he neared her she avoided eye contact and said at this time that she was becoming quite frightened as she could see no other people present on the beach and was becoming very concerned that she might about to be attacked."

The post said the pair passed each other with no communication made.

The woman decided to return home after being "too scared" to continue her walk and reportedly on her way back she noticed the same man heading towards a walkway.

"When he became aware that she was heading back along the beach he turned back from the walkway and facing towards her, again dropped his towel to display himself," the post said.

The woman said the man must have been using a vehicle in order to deliberately get in front of her walk, as she never recalled him passing her.

The woman didn't have her phone with her to take a photo, but according to the post the man was around early 40s, 170-175cm in height with dark brown hair, olive skin and a "bit of a belly". Other than being completely naked he was wearing a black cap.

The woman told the community page she was "very frightened and disgusted by this man's predatory and offensive behaviour".

She added, out of all the years spent on the beach she has never unsafe before and will take some time to be able to feel confident to return to her walks.

Police confirmed in a statement they are making enquiries after receiving a report on Friday, but will not be making any further comments at this stage.
