Auckland ram raid: Offenders used three stolen cars to smash through Ormiston mall, security and cleaning staff 'endangered'

Three stolen vehicles were used to ram-raid an Auckland shopping centre, endangering security and cleaning staff, police say.

A car smashed through automatic doors at the Ormiston Town Centre shopping centre before driving through the mall and smashing into Postie Plus and Noel Leeming.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the ram raid incident that occurred at around 1:10am on Tuesday.

"Police understand three stolen vehicles were used in the incident, and multiple offenders have entered three stores in the complex, taking a number of electronic items and clothing," police said.

"The offenders' behaviour and manner of driving has endangered security and cleaning staff working in the retail complex at the time."

Police are making enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage, but said the offenders fled the scene in two of the stolen vehicles.

Footage of the massive damage to the mall and shops caused by the thieves shows a large glass door completely shattered and electronics smashed.

The Ormiston Town Centre said in a statement they'll be increasing security measures at the shopping centre following the incident and are concerned by the increase in incidents across Auckland.

The latest incident comes after Louis Vuitton and Gucci's Auckland stores on Queen Street were ram-raided on April 11.
