Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has revealed the lengths she went this morning to let her fiancé Clarke Gayford and daughter Neve continue sleeping as she left for work early for the Monday media round.

Writing on Instagram on Monday morning, Ardern said Gayford was up "multiple times" with their daughter Neve during the night but they were both "finally" asleep as she was leaving for work.

"Poor Clarke was up multiple times with our small person, so when they both were finally getting some sleep at 6am and I realised retrieving my shoes would wake them, there was only one option. Gumboots to work," she said in the post, accompanied by a photo of the gumboots she was wearing.

The Prime Minister's post attracted hundreds of comments, including from Labour MP Kiri Allan.

"You really are a coastie!!" Allan said.

Ardern and television personality Gayford were due to be married earlier this but the ceremony was delayed by the Omicron outbreak.

Last week, Ardern confirmed they still plan to get married but have yet to set another date.
