Four youths arrested after allegedly fleeing police following Auckland liquor store ram raid, another group attempts Onehunga jewellry shop theft

Four youths have been arrested for allegedly ram-raiding a liquor store in Auckland in one of at least two burglaries in the city overnight.

Police said in a statement they were notified about the burglary at a commercial premise on Greenhithe Road just before midnight on Saturday, where a vehicle was used to gain entry.

The alleged thieves took a large amount of alcohol and cigarettes before fleeing in two vehicles, police said.

"After abandoning one of the vehicles, the second vehicle was successfully spiked on Don Buck Road, Massey," the statement said.

Police said four youths were taken into custody.

Onehunga Mall ram raid

In a second ram raid overnight, police said officers were called to a burglary in Onehunga Mall where a vehicle was used to gain entry just before 2am.

Police said a group of offenders left in a second vehicle but nothing has been reported as stolen from the store.

Officers and the Eagle helicopter immediately attended the ram raid but the vehicle was not able to be located.

Photos from the scene show the entrance to Jewellers on Queen at Onehunga Mall was smashed open with a damaged vehicle left behind.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
