A homicide probe is underway in Bay of Plenty after police officers found a man's body at a Tauranga property on Saturday night.

Det Snr Sgt John Wilson said officers were initially called at about 10:30pm to a "disorder incident" involving a group at a house on Maungatapu Rd.

"Upon arrival, police located the body," Wilson said on Sunday morning.

"Scene examinations will continue at two Maungatapu Rd properties today."

Wilson said it was believed those involved in the "disorder incident" were known to each other.

He said nearby residents would notice an increased police presence in the coming days while an investigation was ongoing.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
