Police say their "active and deliberate approach" to gang events this weekend has paid off, with seven motorbikes confiscated, 130 infringements issued and one person arrested.

Police set up checkpoints in Mt Wellington and north Auckland in anticipation of the planned Head Hunters gang gathering. This involved stopping every vehicle coming through Marua Road, where the gang's headquarters is located.

"Through strong and deliberate police tactics we were able to deter high-risk driving behaviours and encourage enforcement around unlawful gang behaviour and intimidation," Area Commander for Auckland East Inspector Jim Wilson said in a statement on Sunday.

"This should send a very clear signal from police that we will not tolerate behaviour that will put our community or road safety at risk.

"Anyone who is found to be doing so will be met by strong enforcement action from police."

Inspt Wilson reassured the community that police "don't tolerate those who attempt to rule our roads" and the way they handle these events will always be driven by community safety.

"The complete disregard for other motorists that some groups have is unacceptable, and only place themselves and others at risk," he said.

"Police will continue to conduct enforcement operations like this weekend's and hold offenders to account."

Enquiries are ongoing and CCTV footage will be reviewed to capture any offending. Anyone with information is encouraged to report it to police on 105 if they have not done so already.
