Armed police are responding to reports of gunfire in Mangere Bridge.
A witness in the area said the Armed Offenders Squad was at the scene and an Eagle helicopter had been circling the area.
"Shortly before 8pm on Friday Police received a report of an incident in Woodward Road, Mangere Bridge in which a firearm had been discharged at a stationary vehicle.
"Police including Armed Offenders Squad attended and a 65-year-old man was taken into custody.
"He will appear at Manukau District Court on Saturday 11 June facing firearms-related charges. There were no reports of injuries," police said in a statement.
The reported shooting comes after a spate of firearm incidents in Auckland in recent weeks, many of which have been gang-related.
