Auckland crime wave: Customer injured attempting to intervene in Sandringham supermarket robbery

A customer has been caught up in a robbery in the Auckland suburb of Sandringham overnight.

Sandringham Food Market was broken into just after 11pm, with CCTV footage showing four offenders arriving in a car outside the store.

A customer tried to intervene and sustained minor injuries in the process.

Det Snr Sgt Steve Salton, of Auckland City, said the offenders threatened the shopkeeper and stole cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

The car the offenders left in had since been located and further investigations were underway, Salton said in a statement.
