Auckland crime wave: Truce reportedly called between Killer Beez and Tribesmen gangs

A "truce" has reportedly been called between two rival gangs that are behind the spate of drive-by shootings in Auckland.

A ceasefire has been reached between the Killer Beez and Tribesmen gangs - after three weeks of tit-for-tat shootings, according to the New Zealand Herald.

It comes after 23 shootings since the end of May, most involving drive-by shootings at homes. It's understood the gangs are responsible for most of them.

The Herald reports one of the conditions of the ceasefire is Killer Beez members won't wear their patches in Ōtara - a suburb which both gangs claim a historical connection to.

The ongoing gang turf war links back to the shooting of Killer Beez boss Josh Masters in 2019 by his friend Tribesmen enforcer Okusitino Tae, paralysing Masters and souring the gangs' relations.

Police said in a statement they will continue to remain visible across Auckland but wouldn't comment on reports of a truce.

"Naturally, police remain focused on investigating any incidents of violence. Our staff will continue to remain visible across Tāmaki Makaurau and we will continue to treat any further incidents seriously," a police spokesperson said.

Police urged anyone with any information about people illegally possessing guns to contact them.

"Police encourage anyone who may have information about those illegally in possession of firearms in their community to report this to us," the police spokesperson said.

"They can contact Police on 105 or report information anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 at any time."

Auckland has seen a spate of shootings over the past few weeks. The last reported shooting was on Friday when the Armed Offenders Squad and Eagle helicopter were deployed in Mangere after reports of gunshots.
