Coronavirus: No COVID-19 update on Monday due to Queen's Birthday holiday

There will be no COVID-19 update on Monday, the Ministry of Health says.

The next daily update will instead be on Tuesday.

In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said no data will be released at 1pm on Monday "due to it being a public holiday". Monday is Queen's Birthday.

"The daily update will resume on Tuesday and will include Monday's figures," the ministry said.

With Kiwis travelling across the country for the long weekend, the ministry said it's important "to have plans in place in the event you contract COVID-19 or you are identified as a household contact of a case".

"If you contract COVID-19, you will need to self-isolate and likely remain wherever you test positive or become a household contact, so there may be extra costs involved in paying for additional accommodation and changing your travel plans.

"If you have used your own vehicle to travel, you can travel back to your home to isolate, taking public health measures such as maintaining social distance and using self-service petrol stations, to ensure you don’t infect anyone on your way home.

"However, if you have used public transport or travelled between islands, you won’t be able to isolate at your own home. It is important you have a plan and the ability to isolate where you are holidaying if you need to do so."

New Zealanders are advised to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, stay home if they're unwell, get tested if they're symptomatic, wash and dry their hands, cover coughs and sneezes, and wear a mask indoors.

The latest COVID-19 update on Sunday showed there were 4400 new community cases in the community, 371 people in hospital and eight new deaths. Overall, there are 47,965 active cases.
