Coronavirus: Trade Minister Damien O'Connor tests positive for COVID-19 following trip to US with Jacinda Ardern

Trade and Export Growth Minister Damien O'Connor has announced he's tested positive for COVID-19 following his trip to the US with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

O'Connor announced his positive COVID-19 result on Twitter on Saturday evening and said he was feeling "OK"

"I've tested positive for COVID-19 after having managed to dodge it on six trips abroad," O'Connor said on Twitter. "Feeling OK. Glad to be home."

The positive COVID-19 result will mean O'Connor will miss the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) council in Paris starting on Thursday.

"I was about to announce travel this week to the OECD in Paris and then the WTO (World Trade Organization) in Geneva," he said.

"Unfortunately I now won't be able to make the OECD but all going well will complete isolation and do the 2nd leg of the trip to the WTO's 12th Ministerial Conference the following week. An important one for trade."

It comes after three members of the delegation that travelled with the Prime Minister to the US also tested positive for COVID-19.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chris Seed, and Ardern's chief press secretary, Andrew Campbell, tested positive for COVID-19 last Monday while a third member received a positive result a day after. The Governor of California also tested positive for COVID-19 a day after meeting with Ardern.

Ardern also tested positive for COVID-19 last month before heading on her trip to the US.
