Auckland police have launched a homicide investigation after a "disorder" incident resulted in the death of a man.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward said the man sustained serious injuries from the incident on May 15 and was hospitalised. On Wednesday he died.

The man was one of two people hospitalised as a result of the fatal incident. The second person has since been discharged.

Police have charged a 24-year-old man over the incident and he will be appearing in the Papakura District Court.

"Police cannot rule out the possibility of further charges being laid as our enquires into this matter remain ongoing."

Hayward said he couldn't release details of the dead man while his family is still being advised.

"Police would like to reassure the community that is believed to be an isolated incident, with both parties involved in the disorder being known to each other."
